This Weekend’s Rugby at Bideford RFC

It’s another busy weekend of rugby across the club, with all sides in action and plenty to look forward to.

Chiefs vs Ivybridge (Home)

The Chiefs welcome Ivybridge, a side who have been producing some impressive results both home and away in recent weeks. When the two met earlier in the season, Bideford travelled to Ivybridge and came away with a bonus-point win. Since then, however, Ivybridge have gone from strength to strength and will be eager to make a statement on the road.

After a disappointing opening to last weekend’s game, the Chiefs will be keen to get a solid warm-up and hit the ground running. There is some good news on the availability front: Dave Evans-Pearce returns after a lengthy break, Dec Smale is back in contention following work commitments last week, and Louis Atkinson is ready to go after missing the previous fixture due to a league signing issue. Competition for places is strong following an encouraging second-half performance last time out.

Quins vs Exeter Engineers (Away – Crossover League Game)

The Quins travel to face Exeter Engineers in a crossover league fixture against a well-organised and competitive outfit. The sides met last season, but league restructuring has delayed the opportunity for a rematch, making this encounter all the more intriguing.

After an extended break from competitive action, the Quins will be pleased to finally get back on the pitch and test themselves against familiar opposition.

Colts vs Totnes (Home)

The Colts return to action at home against Totnes, an unknown quantity for this young Bideford side. Regardless, they can expect a tough contest, as every fixture at this level demands full commitment.

There is hope that the squad will be fit, fired up, and potentially boosted by a few additional players to strengthen numbers. With four Colts already stepping up to represent the senior sides this season, opportunities remain for others to push on and make their mark in the second half of the campaign.

Ladies vs Topsham (Home – Sunday)

The Ladies are back at home on Sunday, hosting Topsham Ladies. Bideford come into the fixture full of confidence after an outstanding 41–0 victory over Cullompton Seconds last time out.

Topsham will provide another strong test. They currently sit seventh in the league, three places below Bideford, but will be eager to close the gap. It promises to be another competitive and entertaining encounter.
