14 Year Wait Over! Boxing Day Win for Quins

Bideford Quins faced Barnstaple 2nds in their annual local derby game on Boxing Day morning at Pottington road. Bideford knew they would be facing a very strong Barum team who to date are having a good season. With a well turned out crowd both teams certainly gave everything from the off with both teams playing good rugby. Bideford were first to score with young Archie Raymont, who has earnt his nine shirt every week,  going over for a try, with Barnstaple doing the same not long after. Heading into half time Bideford set up several phases of play to allow Jack Chapman to show his strength and get Bideford a 10-5 lead into half time. Half time came and Bideford knew if they continued to play as they had then a long awaited boxing day win was looming, but they had a lot to do. Barnstaple changed half their team, however Bideford’s team were up for the challenge and played what manager Ben Braddick considered was the best he had seen them since taking over the roll three years ago. A very long half continued and Barnstaple had chances but only to be met by a solid defence. Eventually the ref blew up and Bideford celebrated a win that hasn’t happened on boxing day for possibly fourteen years. Ben Braddick could not praise his team enough afterwards giving Nathan Board man of the match, however it was a great team effort.
