This Weekends Rugby

This weekend sees Bideford Chiefs travel to Bude for the final stages of the area rounds in the National Cup. Bude had the upper hand earlier in the season, knocking Bideford out in the first round of the Harpers Cup, but with much higher stakes this time around, the Chiefs will be eager to turn the tables.

Bideford will be without George Terry, who is sidelined with a dislocated shoulder. However, there is hope that captain Nick Bone, along with Dean Folland and Ash Crouch, will return to the squad after missing the recent fixture against Topsham. Dec Smale will also be pushing to make himself available.

The winner of this clash will progress to the quarter-finals of the cup, and both sides will be hopeful of securing a home tie in the next round.

Elsewhere, Quins are at home to Teignmouth in the crossover league. Quins will be keen to get back into action as attention turns firmly to the Merit Table, where five points from their final two games are needed to secure promotion. They are expected to name a largely unchanged squad following last week’s frustrating cancellation against Exeter Engineers. With unsettled weather forecast, there remains a slight risk of further pitch issues.

The Colts could face similar challenges with pitch conditions but will be ready for their home fixture against Cullompton. After a run of recent cancellations, they will be eager to make progress and catch up on games in hand.

Sunday brings a touch of cup fever to Kingsley Astro, with the Under 16s hosting the formidable Exeter Athletic and the Under 15s welcoming Exmouth. The Under 16 girls will also be in action, travelling away to face Exmouth.
