This Weekends Rugby

This weekend sees top-of-the-table Devonport Services make the trip from Plymouth. The last meeting between the two sides was a cracking contest, with Bideford coming away with a well-earned draw. Both teams will likely look quite different this time around, and DPS arrive in formidable form after an emphatic 101–0 victory over OPM last week, a result that will give any side huge confidence on the road.

Known for their physical, hard-running rugby, Devonport will provide a stern test for the Chiefs, who will need to be at their very best. There are welcome returns for Dean Folland, Ben Short, and Ollie Hedden, all of whom missed the trip to South Molton through injury.

The Quins travel to Exmouth, eager to build some momentum after a stop-start season with limited game time. Their last outing saw them run Topsham ragged, but they know things are always tougher away from home. With a strong squad travelling ,  and a bus trip to enjoy, the lads will be determined to put in a performance and make the journey worthwhile.

On Sunday, Bideford U16s head to Ivybridge for an 11am kick-off. Four players stepped up to represent the Colts last week and did themselves proud, while the DPG trio are all fit and ready to go. With both sides relatively unknown to each other, it promises to be an exciting contest, and hopefully a winning one. A squad of around 22 players is expected to travel, and we wish them the very best of luck.

The Ladies also host Devonport Services on Sunday in a return fixture. With this being a league game, they’ll be aiming to field a strong XV and secure an important win.
