Boys and girls from the age of 6 can play rugby at Bideford RFC, and are grouped according to age. Age on the first of September, in whole years, plus one decide a child’s group. We run teams in U6 & U7’s Tag, U8’s Tag, U9’s, U10’s, U11’s, U12’s, U13’s, U14’s, U15’s, U16, before progressing to seniors either Colts (Boys) or Vixens (Ladies). The coaching setup consists of RFU qualified coaches, and all DBS cleared. These children are the future of Bideford and Devon rugby.
Junior Rugby Roadmap
The RFU have an Age Grade structured programme for all junior and youth participants. This starts with a tag based, non-contact version of rugby to get all having fun and becoming integrated and working as a team, with basic catching, running and passing. As the children move through the age groups, more skills, contact and other aspects of the game are added. More information can be found at RFU Age Grade Rugby
When and Where?
The rugby season runs from September through to May. All age groups train on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday night down at Bideford Rugby Club, at Victoria Park. Winter training moves to an artificial grass pitch at Kingsley School.
Every Sunday through the season matches take place for all ages groups. These are against local clubs, as well as touring teams, and taking part in Festivals.
Parents
As well as the boys and girls, the Bideford RFC would not exist without the parents. The club really encourage the active support of parents, both cheering on the teams, and also volunteering to help the junior section run. Sunday mornings, the clubhouse is open for bacon sarnies and coffee, before cheering on the boys and girls of Bideford RFC.
