Bideford getting closer to first Western Counties win

Bideford are inching closer to their first league win of the season, according to coach Simon Morrell.

Kingsbridge defeated Bideford 19-12 last time out in a basement battle between two sides who had not won a game all season.

Although Kingsbridge took the points back to the South Hams, Morrell said Bideford got themselves into a winning position. The problem was they could not sustain it.

“We were great for the first 30 minutes, comfortable on the ball and caused Kingsbridge a fair few issues in defence,” said Morrell.

“We conceded possession from three line-outs five metres from their line and gave away a scrum penalty in the same position in our feed.

“We would have expected to convert at least two of those set pieces into a five pointer.

“To add to our frustrations, we missed a kick at the sticks to go 10-nil up.

“Essentially we paid the price for not chasing in on that early wave and were strangled out of the contest in the second half.”

Bideford skipper Dean Folland scored a try for the third game in a row. Matt Bowes had their other five pointer with Pat Sanders booting the extras.
