Dear Players, Parents & Carers,
Well, what a year! The challenges of 2020 were certainly unexpected and had a profound impact on our communities and lives. I really hope that we have now seen the worst of this crisis and can start to reach a state of normality in 2021. Our thoughts are with club members and their families who have experienced first-hand the hardships of this year, be that ill health or reduced income.
Through these turbulent times, grassroots sport, in our case rugby, has remained strong and at the very heart of our communities. Through the brilliant work of our Covid Committee in these most challenging times, we have worked hard to provide some level of training for our young players, providing them with a release from the confines of lockdown and rules of school. The impact of the pandemic on mental health and wellbeing cannot be underestimated, so it has been great for players to have somewhere to let off steam and enjoy some outdoor fun and fitness with their friends.
Looking forward, the prospect of returning to some local contact matches looks likely in the New Year. I know that teams have missed the more challenging environment of competitive rugby and I feel the frustration of some in that we have been unable to recommence contact sooner. Please be assured that every decision made has been done so to ensure that we can return to rugby in a way that is not only compliant with government advice, but safe for players and their families. On that note, I extend our deepest gratitude to the Covid Committee members who have had the unenviable task of making this unprecedented situation work best for everyone.
We would also like to thank you for your patience and support in this matter. We have a truly brilliant rugby club, and we are committed to providing a fantastic local resource for everyone to enjoy!
Whatever your plans are this Christmas, we wish you and your family a very happy and peaceful time. We are working hard to make 2021 a fantastic, rugby-filled year and look forward to starting strong with training recommencing on 6th January. See you there!
